Statement & Curriculum Vitae

Statement
I have converted the traditional slip-decoration technique used in traditional Punchong (b. Punjang) celadons into a new expressive technique--the “sharp paste technique,” in which this clay is spread repeatedly on the vessel surface. Since the slip has an appropriate surface tension, it forms bead-like grains on the surface on fired body. Each time the slip is applied, the protrusions, which have a decorative effect, increase in thickness by another 0.3 mm. The process is repeated 50 to 100 times until it is finished. Each application of slip requires around 20 minutes for drying. The surface protrusions are absolutely non-reproducible. My works require sufficient time and unlimited patience.
